Its processing power has been plenty for all my uses, and my full-sized hunk of a laptop hasn’t left the closet since I got this guy. Keyboard is huge enough for normal typing, it’s nice and lightweight, and looks great.
I would have loved to give this guy five stars, except that it has some cheap hardware that has caused consistent problems for many users, including myself. And it doesn’t take very long for the problems to crop up.
For my personal specifically, I have one major and one minor complaint:
MAJOR PROBLEM: cheap connection between personal and screen is already starting to fail. Only four months into its life, the screen went absolutely green after flickering a few times early in the day. The personal itself was running great; it hadn’t crashed and I was healthy to log off using the keyboard shortcuts (I could hear the logoff sound).
The screen started working again, and for the past two months, I’ve gotten occasional flickering and my webcam “connects” and “disconnects” constantly throughout the day, another indicator that the connection from the monitor is failing.
I’ve owned it for seven months now, and I’m concerned it won’t even last a year before the screen’s connection fails for good. And considering the cheap price, I doubt the cost to fix it is going to be worthwhile! I’m really worried.
Minor problem: the latch at the bottom of the netbook that keeps the battery locked into place is extremely loose and unlocks often, making the battery slide out…bad if you’re off wired power.

I own a number of personal (and have owned and purchased a number of personal in the past–I built one, once upon a time–so I have a pretty good amount of experience with technology. This tiny guy was my first foray into the realm of netbooks. I have a few friends who have notbooks. They selected others like an Asus or MSI. Though I had an Acer a decade ago–probably longer–and at the time wasn’t that impressed, I decided to give this a go as the most solid brand of the ones I was looking at. HP’s netbooks were out of the running due to the odd 578 pixel height they were huge on at the time.
Functionally, a lot of these are going to be the same. A netbook is a netbook is a netbook. They will all have trouble with streaming high resolution stuff from the world wide web at times. They will all change at running anything truly complicated. They are all built with essentially the same stuff. If you look at it, 90% of everything is running a 1.6ghz atom. They generally have 1 gig of ram and will accept a 2 gig (do this). They come with a multi-card reader and have 3 USB ports. In this way, you will not find any surprises with the Acer Aspire one.
You want to get something that is well built, reliable, and has great battery life. If you were to judge a netbook by these criteria, there is nothing really to be asked for that the Aspire One does not deliver. It has, hands down, the ideal battery life of any laptop personal I have ever owned or seen. I actually operated one nearly continuously on a flight from London to Chicago. This will state ’8.5′ hours of battery life. This is a tiny off. If you’re doing much on the internet, you’ll probably call that like 5-6 hours, but if you’re on a plane where that doesn’t matter, you can turn off the wifi and it will cap out over 10.
Even with its rather massive battery, this weighs in a tiny over 3 lbs. Its light as a feather.
Its constructed mostly with a plastic shell. In spite of this, it actually is very captivating and it feels remarkably solid. If you’re an moron like I am, on occasion, and manage to shatter part of your keyboard by dropping something surprisingly heavy on it, you’ll actually get the opportunity to see that this is built much like a modern car. The metal is on the inside, and its pretty well organized, tough, solid, and quiet. It does not run very hot. It actually took me a few months to realize there was even a fan in there.
Yes, my unit still works in spite of my poor actions. I was actually very depressing when I dilapidated it, but I replaced the keyboard, and now it works very well, still, a testament to its solid construction.
Finally, this runs XP like it was prefabricated for it (that is XP for the One). I have heard that Windows 7 is also a good fit for netbooks, though I have not yet tried that myself. In closing, I was very much ‘out’ of the whole Acer brand for a long time, but this One is definitely place me back in the ‘in’ camp again. This is a very impressive tiny computer.

Best thing since sliced bread.
I purchased this notebook in September, I wanted to move a while before writing my review. Now I’m not going to regale you with all the technical stuff, there are others that have already done that very astutely. What I will state is that this is one of the ideal tech gadgets that I have ever perchased. So far I have had no problems at all. I brought the Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (Black) as I am not very adapt at using a touch pad. I also brought the NU Trim USB External SuperMulti Drive DVD Burner ESW860 so that I could back up my hard drive and add any programes to the notebook. My main reason for buying this notebook was to be healthy to play Solitaire, Scrabble, Yahtzee and surf the net while watching television the Acer One fits the bill.

I love my netbook!
I previously had a Sony Vaio 15 in’ screen and I didn’t like the weight and the mess of carrying it around, however I love this netbook, it’s really fast to get on and off, programs run swift and it’s extremely light and simple to carry anywhere, I advocate it. It came with windows XP which I like to vista (I’ve not tried windows 7 yet). Great product for a tiny price.

I’m not very personal savvy but this is great for me. I keep it beside me when I’m watching television & I jump on OFTEN to google something or check facebook or ebay. I love this tiny thing. I bring it outside in the summer to my gazebo. It’s the handiest tiny thing I ever purchased. It’s attached to my hip. Love, love ,love it.

Better than I ever imagined
I’m one of 8 adult children – and the first one to get a netbook. Now 4 out of 8 own it – and the 5th one is looking! I thought I’d only use it occasionally, but since I first turned it on, I’ve used my personal less than twice a month. It’s faster on the world wide web than anything I’ve ever used. I now use it for all my digital pic editing – I download over 500 images per month and spend hours working on them. One hint: I keep my music library on a thumb drive so I can plug and play it using Windows media Player on the Acer. I keep another thumb drive handy in case I need to print something. For any application I have found using a thumb drive is superior than having duplicate files on two computers. Do not be afraid to purchase this item. I will never be without my tiny red Acer!

I am thrilled with this purchase. It was exactly what I was looking for. This was purchased so that I would have a personal to take with me on trips. I post a regular Blog that includes pictures. The personal has an SD slot so that I was easily and swiftly healthy to update my pictures to publish to my Blog. I have a business that requires that I check email on a regular basis so I was healthy to easily healthy to take care of business. It is very light and I was easily healthy to carry it in my backpack and with the long battery life I was healthy to pack the power cord in my checked luggage so that I didn’t have to carry the additional weight.
Because of the small screen size and the small keyboard I would not want this as my only personal but to have for travel, it’s perfect.

Outstanding Product – Aspire One
We have been years trying to decide whether to purchase a laptop. When we saw the HP notebook we got much closer and then we saw the ACER…the same thing for less! I have been using ours nearly daily. It is so nice to sit with my wife in the evenings and either research on the net or watch a motion picture on it or just write a letter while she does something else. It was so simple to set up opens swiftly everything I had hoped. We have not had the opportunity to exercise the wireless ability away from our home signal yet so can not comment on that. The only thing I wish is that there was more volume from the speakers. We are both 62 and the hearing is not what it used to be. Great product. At least for the 1st 30 days! Only drained the battery once and it exceeded the 6.5 hour limit. I would not go without my desktop but this product is an outstanding addition.

My husband and I both have the option of working remotely and we were growing exhausted of lugging heavy laptops on roadtrips. Not only were they bulky but they’d be incredibly costly to replace if they were lost or damaged.
Enter the Acer Aspire!
After reading the reviews I was afraid I would find the keyboard cramped and the mouse pad difficult. While neither is as comfortable as a full size laptop, I dont have a hard time transitioning from one to the other. I keep a small retractable mouse in my carrying case for extended use but I’m fine with the touch pad for logging on to check emails and such.
The Aspire is swift to begin up and handles all software flawlessly. I havent loaded too many programs on it but I have the basics (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the organisation flies compared to my full size laptop.
Battery life is great. I haven’t ever tested the 6.5 hour limit but I have uesd it for hours on end with no battery warnings. It recharges swiftly as well. (One minor complaint is that the power cord is pretty massive which I’m sure there is no way around. Just keep in mind it’s a two piece cord with brick that you’ll need to pack up if you think you’ll need to recharge or use an outlet while you’re working. It’s not something you can just stick in your pocket).
Bottom line, I found the combination of calibre and convinience so good that I purchased a second for my husband. We no longer have to take turns using it when we’re out of town. I keep mine in the living room for the children to use when we’re not traveling. It’s a great size for them and I don’t worry that one slip will end up costing us several hundreds of dollars to replace (not to mention doable lost files, etc).
This is the perfect personal for people on the go and for someone who just wants a personal for world wide web access and occassional word processing/spreadsheet needs.
